Vanessa Lanza is a multimedia artist and a native Pacific Northwest resident, and with that time, has developed a deep, spiritual connection to our ocean and trees. For Lanza, they are a ubiquitous life-giving presence that help center and ground her. My artwork is an expression of her love-of-home and absolute admiration of the ocean, trees and landscapes that surround us and the stories, wisdom, and history that they hold.
Lanza's work centers on two practices--cyanotype paintings done with ocean water and print creations with tree rings made from wood pieces salvaged from fallen trees or discarded materials. Her artistic process involves using natural elements and locally foraged objects in the cyanotypes and prints, so that nature is not only the subject of a piece, it also plays an integral role in the creation of it.
Lanza lives in Gig Harbor, WA where she creates her work sometimes directly on the beach.
