domicile is pleased to present The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, a group exhibition of paintings, works on paper, and ceramic sculptures by Seattle artists. The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters plays with the universal yet indeterminate phenomenon of the dream and refers to Francisco Goya’s etching El sueño de la razon produce monstruos from the series Los Caprichos.
The artists in this show give shape to the variegated ways in which dreams are remembered, recounted, deciphered, experienced, and visualized. What does it mean to dream? As we know it, dreams are an intense visual sensation often contingent on memory that emerge somewhat illogically during deep sleep. But to others, to dream is to take pause, to escape reality, to hope, and to explore the self through an uncanny window into our imagination, fears, and desires.
