domicile is pleased to present Fallout, Spencer Frazer's first solo show in Seattle. In a presentation of new paintings, Frazer communicates a tension between humanity and the natural world through rich, totemic compositions that interweave stories and subliminal imagery to comment on the wildlife impacted by environmental fallout.
Having honed his skills as a self-taught painter, Frazer's work showcases a rich visual language characterized by intricate patterns and subliminal details. His compositions blend elements of wildlife and human impact, urging viewers to contemplate the consequences of our actions on the natural world. With influences from Northwest indigenous art and Japanese ukiyo-e, Frazer blends storytelling, history, and a contemporary narrative to capture the essence of our time and offer a compelling perspective on the urgent need for change.
Frazer's work bridges the physical world and an imaginative dreamscape, creating a visual tapestry that speaks to the combined consciousness of the natural world. The compositions of his paintings are assembled from a multitude of smaller narratives which refer to many of the manmade environmental issues of our time, such as global warming, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, air pollution, and industrialization. Frazer situates himself within a legacy of Pacific Northwest "Mystic" painters who contemplated the unique landscape they lived in and the passage of time within it/to it.
Frazer was born and raised in Los Angeles before moving to Seattle in 1989 to be closer to the outdoors. Through exploring the landscape of Washington, Alaska, and Canada, he became passionate about the environment and how it has been impacted by man-made climate change. Past shows and exhibitions include showing with Agora Gallery, NY at EXPO, NY (2024) and at the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition, NY (2023); a two-person show at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute (2024); work shown on the Times Square Billboards, NY (2023); was featured in the 2023 International Artists in Embassies exhibit; had artwork included in the US Government's Fifth Climate Assessment Report; and had artwork serve as the backdrop to President Biden's speech on Greenpeace Day (2022).
