Patricia J Richardson is a full-time oil painting artist in the French Impressionistic tradition, practicing in the Seattle area for twelve years. As guidelines to her artistic work, she adheres to and uses as a jump-off point the techniques of Cezanne, Matisse, Van Gogh and Chagall which include the “tache” pioneered by Cezanne; Matisse’s aggressive use of pure, brilliant color; and Van Gogh’s textural brushstrokes. At this time, Patricia is studying the Artist’s Geometry, a concept found in the underpaintings and sketches of the Renaissance artists and in the works of Picasso, Mondrian, and Kandinsky. Travels to Europe and to the South of France enable her to absorb the sunlight and the terroir, and to connect with these painters! Her life began in Walla Walla and in central Washington. As a young teen, the brilliant works of Gauguin exploded onto
an outsized screen in full color during an art class she attended. A few years later, large “field of color” canvases by Mark Rothko graced the walls of the Yakima Valley Regional Library, where
she was working and could see the paintings each day during the month-long summer exhibit! Her fire for art was lit! Currently, art and painting has become a daily need and joy in her life!
