John Kirschenbaum is a local furniture maker whose approach to furniture design is to first address function. He believes a successful piece should convey its purpose, invite its use through hand and eye appeal, perform its function, and be comfortable and fun to use. He was previously a sculptor, and the curves and shapes of his wood furniture reflect such skilled craftsmanship.
Kirschenbaum feels that his unique philosophy has actually liberated him from imitating other solutions and furniture styles. Function addresses not only mechanical aspects but also hand and eye appeal. An ugly piece isn’t apt to be used as much no matter how well it functions mechanically. He strives to use the characteristics of the wood to complement the design rather than rely on its beauty alone. His design ideas come from a variety of sources: some from nature, some from art or architecture, and some from a strange corner of his imagination.
John Kirschenbaum is available for commissioned pieces for you home whether that be dining sets, shelves, or bed frames. Please inquire for details.
