ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jeffrey James Fields is a practicing multidisciplinary artist, with a current focus on ceramics, textile design and mixed-media. The through lines of his work connotes aspects of nature and the aquatic, integrated with structural frameworks. His pieces exude a sense of contained movement, and the idea that freedom is within. His work, no matter the medium or form, is visioned and crafted through the lens of fine art. His creations are produced for aesthetic, intellectual and emotional purposes rather than that of sheer functionality or utility. Fields spent decades establishing himself as an award winning international design leader for global brands and Fortune 500 companies. His work experience in interior design, architecture and brand marketing continues to inform his output. That said, a chance conversation in 2022 would turn everything on it’s head for the artist. Fields was introduced to Japanese Saori, a textile design philosophy that celebrates free expression and the wonder of imperfection. Studying this methodology challenged years of creative perfectionism, and has profoundly shifted his approach, the way he works, and the work itself.
