Gary Thomas has been devoted to painting since the age of 15. Over the decades, he has developed a distinctive approach to abstraction he calls “Interfusion”—a layered, intuitive process that blends movement, emotion, and improvisation.
For Gary, painting is a search for truth. His work pulses with depth and energy, drawing viewers into a space beyond the surface. Each piece reflects a lifetime of observation, introspection, and resilience.
Gary was sentenced to life without parole and served 20 years in prison before being granted clemency in 2017 through the advocacy of the Seattle Clemency Project. He was their first client to be placed with a volunteer lawyer and the first to be released.
Since his release, Gary has continued to paint every day and is now pursuing a full-time career as a professional artist. His work has received national and international recognition, with one of his pieces now housed in the Vatican. Through his art, Gary offers a powerful testament to redemption, vision, and the enduring human spirit.
