OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH, 6 – 8PM
domicile is pleased to welcome back Spencer Frazer with his latest collection, Combustion. Building on last year’s series Fallout—which examined the destructive human relationship with flora and fauna—this body of work turns to energy and fire, exploring cyclical patterns of consumption and their lasting impact on the natural world.
Combustion delves deep into humanity's long-standing and complex relationship with energy use. This evocative series of paintings examines the transformation of solid carbon into gaseous CO2, underscoring the fundamental process that fuels global warming and climate change. Civilization's progress has been closely tied to the development and use of energy, predominantly through combustion. By juxtaposing representations of human activities with abstract depictions of their consequences, these works distill the complexity of the issue into a singular moment in time. This fusion of styles creates a dynamic harmony, challenging viewers to confront the significant impacts of our energy consumption and reflecting on the future of our planet.
