Christy Hopkins is a local painter whose practice intuitively based. She rarely approaches a painting with a specific idea for its composition. Rather, she allows the paint to guide her and slowly a story emerges after layers of paint have been applied. The textures are endless and overlapping. Layer making is critical to her process as the work changes and develops as each new layer comes alive. The final product is a work with an "aliveness"--a frenetic energy felt through the multitude of colors and gestural marks.
Hopkins was featured in Art FOLIO 2021 in their “One of the World’s Most Exciting Artists” collection. This is a curated publication that has a collection of the best in abstract and contemporary work as decided on by a jury of professional artists, museum curators, gallery owners, art consultants & collectors. Recently, Hopkins' art was featured in Vogue Living’s March 2024 edition. And her art has caught the eye of renowned art critic, Jerry Saltz.
Hopkins exhibits in Los Angeles at Mash Gallery at Laguna Art Gallery in Orange County. She has also exhibited at “The Other Art Fair” LA sponsored by Saatchi Art, where she nearly sold out her booth. This is an international art fair featuring a global collection of emerging talent.
